Am I awake or am I still dreaming? Somewhere between fact and fiction, these images are the lies I am telling, the narratives I have woven together. They are the truth that exists: in my consciousness, my memory, my dreams. This work was created in 2013 and forms part of the series Dreams.
The original image is created using a combination of traditional darkroom techniques. A typical negative image projected onto the light sensitive paper while simultaneously arranging physical objects on the surface of the paper to cause a disruptive composition to the image. Prior to the avant-garde period, photograms were mainly considered traces or simply documents of an existing form. At the turn of the century artists such as Christian Schad, followed by Man Ray and László Moholy-Nagy experimented with the photogram turning it from a process for documentation to one of creative expression.
