ISOLATION VIEW
ALEXANDRA PACE
VALLETTA, 2020

Isolation View is collection of images that are simultaneously both inward and outward looking. In the midst of a global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, I find myself oscillating between the stillness of the city and the inevitable ‘frantic productivity as a fear response’[1], an internal state which turns the resources at hand and my immediate surroundings into potential outlets and subjects. The city has not been completely silenced, just filtered to its pure essence and inhabitants. Living in Valletta can often feel like being a fortified bubble so confinement is not new, it is an opportunity to view my surroundings in isolation and with fresh eyes.

BIO

Alexandra Pace is an artist and curator. Through her multidisciplinary practice, she works predominantly with found material, still photography and film. Educated at Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London, Alexandra’s interest lies in duration and temporality in the work of art as specifically relevant to photography, film, new media and technology. This is based around the understanding of the image as intensive-interactive, interchangeable, multiple and incomplete. Alexandra is also the founder and Director of Blitz, a non-profit contemporary art project space in Valletta, Malta. Established in 2013, Blitz has been pivotal in the development of Malta’s contemporary art scene.
